A Bike for Gerardo

Last fall, Get Together member, Ray Wilkinson, saw a boy’s bike at a garage sale for just $5 and couldn’t resist purchasing it.  When his wife asked him what he was going to do with it, he said, “I am going to give it away – to who, God only knows”.

Recently, little Gerardo Ramirez walked over to the offices of GT Partner Ministry, Project LIFT in the Gulfton Apartment Complex where he lives told the staff that their lights were off and they could not pay the rent.  Gerardo’s mom is disabled and had pawned her wheelchair the month prior to pay the rent. Not only did they not have any idea of where the rent was coming from, but they didn’t know where the next meal was coming from.

On Christmas Eve, Project LIFT was able to provide the Ramirez family with a complete Christmas package – food, gifts, utility assistance, one month’s rent and other special treats. Included in the gifts was the bike donated by Ray Wilkinson.

When Gerardo opened the door and saw all the presents, cupcakes and goodies he screamed, “Santa did not forget me”.  Barbara Irving, Project LIFT’s Executive Director said, “We all sang Christmas songs and shared the good news of Jesus Christ.  Rev (Jimmie Irving) let them know that the Lord we serve is able and that He will make a way clearly when there is no way.”

Ray Wilkinson – thanks for listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to buy that bike and your faith that God had just the boy in mind to receive it.  Project LIFT – thanks for your availability to see the needs of this family and respond.
